Sustainability guidelines

  1. Environmental Sustainability and Carbon Footprint Reduction
    1. To minimize the carbon footprint, the project will limit face-to-face international meetings to three, with preference given to train transportation, especially between Slovakia and Poland.
    2. Green accommodations will be sought, prioritizing hotels that use green energy, have green roofs, or contribute to climate protection.
    3. Locally sourced food and refreshments will be provided at meetings, and academic conferences will be attended online when possible to avoid unnecessary travel.
  2. Sustainable Meetings and Events
    1. All project meetings, training sessions, and events will adhere to the European Commission’s guidelines on “How to organize greener events, conferences, and meetings.”
    2. Hosting organizations will ensure:
      1. Green transport options between airports and meeting venues, such as trains, carpools, or low-emission buses.
      2. Environmentally certified venues and accommodations with strong public transport connections.
      3. Reduced food waste, a preference for vegetarian options, and the use of washable or recyclable tableware.
      4. Minimal printing, with a preference for digital materials whenever possible.
  3. Paper-Free Project
    1. The project will be predominantly paper-free, using digital materials for all meetings, events, and outputs. Paper will only be used for essential documents like attendance lists and agreements.
    2. All project results, such as reports and educational materials, will be published digitally, with the exception of the „Edu Game Maker“ Toolbox, which will have physical components. Sustainability guidelines will be considered in selecting printing contractors for this (e.g. using recycled materials).
  4. Sustainable Use of Resources
    1. Ensure the efficient use of project resources, minimizing waste and maximizing the reuse of materials.
    2. Utilize open-source tools and platforms that can be maintained and updated by the community after the project concludes.
  5. Capacity Building for Long-Term Impact
    1. Provide training and support to teachers, students, and game developers to ensure they can continue creating and using educational games sustainably.
    2. Widely share knowledge and best practices through workshops, publications, and conferences to build a self-sustaining ecosystem around game-based learning.
