The aim of the project is to teach future teachers and game developers to create educational games. The project comprises a plenty of other interesting activities for teaching and game development.
Project is financed by the European Union within the Erasmus+ programme and it is called Learn to Play for the Future. It primarily focuses on the creation of subjects to be taught at pedagogically aimed universities as well as universities teaching game studies.
The rationale behind the project is the fact that future teachers lack the awareness of game features in education. On the contrary, future game developers do not understand the potential educational aims of digital games.
Unique tools and research for game-based learning
Thus, within three years, an international team will create and test a curriculum for a subject in which the above-mentioned target groups should be taught to create educational games.
On top of that, the project also comprises a research part, within which we will examine the current state of education in the area of so-called game-based learning at universities. We will research into the area-relevant needs of teachers and developers as well as the needs of those who focus on this area.
Moreover, we will pay research attention to the impact of such tuition on students, and the collected data will be used to improve the individual courses. At the same time, we will partially develop the issue of educational games in scientific discourse.
One of the unique outcomes of the project is a universal EduGame Maker toolbox, that is to be used as a universal game creation tool for teachers. It will be freely accessible and we strongly believe that, after several rounds of testing, it will also be effectively usable.
Within the courses, students will create educational games that will also be the project’s outcomes. Thus, you can look forward to new educational games that can be used either in education or at home.
It is for everybody
The great thing about the project is that we want to share its results not only through communication activities, e.g. via this newsletter, but also within live sessions when the project’s outcomes will be presented. We are also planning game-based learning related educational videos.
Learn to Play for the Future is an international project within the Erasmus KA220 scheme. Its members comprise of five organisations from Finland, Poland and Slovakia. They form a mix of professionals from universities that focus on pedagogy and game studies. The team also includes Impact Games, an organisation dedicated to the creation of educational games and their implementation in schools.
